Officials warn of picking morel mushrooms from previously flooded areas

(KCAU) – There are still plenty of damaged roadways from the floods that hit the region this March, but another, lesser-known danger from the flood water is still lurking in Siouxland.

For people who hunt for Morel mushrooms in the spring, be extra cautious where those mushrooms grow.

Officials warn morels found in places that experienced flooding should be avoided Those mushrooms may still harbor bacteria from floodwaters that cannot be fully cleaned for safe consumption.
