We’re getting out first look inside Thurston County’s new law enforcement center.
The $5.9 million facility is a 34-bed jail with sheriff’s offices located in Pender, Nebraska.
Inmates will likely be transferred to the new jail that replaces the old 100-year old courthouse, on March 1st.
The jail meets state standards and offers new safety features and is providing an economic boost as well according to Sheriff Shelly Perez.
“We have hired more employees, when all of this first started we had 8 full-time employees and 1 part-time. And now we have 13 full-time and 2 part-time,” Perez said.
Residents get their first look at the new jail Saturday during an open house scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m.
