YANKTON, S.D. (KCAU) – The National Weather Service from Sioux Falls held a public storm spotting class in Yankton Wednesday night.
The class helps people stay safe during severe weather and learn how to identify when a storm may become severe. Officials from the weather service also trained people attending the class how they can report the weather they’re seeing in their communities and farms, all vital information the National Weather Service relies on to a get a complete picture of a storm.
“We want to keep everyone, not just in our own county but actually in our own state as safe as humanly possible. We’ve seen the devastation things in the news and it’s tragic and there’s no need for people to lose their life if they’re listening to the information that we have to say and making good choices,” Yankton County Emergency Management PIO Cherie Hoffman said.
Storm spotters perform an important service for their community while also keeping themselves safe.
