If your a bird watcher or would like to know more about the hobby, this weekend is the perfect time for you.
People from all over the world are participating in the Great Backyard Bird count, an annual study to help better understand our flying friends.
Today, at the Dorthy Pecaut Nature Center, Siouxlanders were doing their part by learning the basics of bird watching all while documenting the birds they see.
“It also helps for things like the backyard bird count because it helps scientist understand what kind of birds are out there with having to go to those areas and sit in your back yard for instance,” says Olivia Parks, an environmental educator.
The data collected over this weekend will help conservationists keep track of the population of native birds and migratory patterns.
