As new athletic facilities roll in at Morningside College, some unofficial football seating is moving out.
Construction for the college’s lacrosse and track and field facilities is well underway.
This means what’s become known as “Cheapskate Hill” just south of Olsen stadium, will be no more.
Mustangs and high school football fans have used the hill as a place to watch games without paying admission.
However, Morningside thinks the new facilities will grow on them.
“So now that we’ve moved those facilities to the top of the hill, that’s not going to be available anymore as a gathering spot. It’ll be a change, so sometimes change takes a while to adapt to,” says Rick Wollman, VP of communications for Morningside.
Although the projects are expected to be complete late this fall, lacrosse teams won’t be playing on the field until spring of 2020. That’s when the newly added sport will be fully up and running.
The college just hired their first men’s lacrosse head coach last month. Wollman says as of now, he’s on the hunt for recruits.
