MERRILL, Iowa (KCAU) – Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, officials reported a crash on Highway 75 that caused a power outage in Merrill.
According to MidAmerican’s outage map, 432 people didn’t have power in the area until around 9 a.m. The outage map claimed a vehicle crash was the reason for the power loss around 4:51 a.m.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office said the right southbound lane of Highway 75 was closed after the crash. According to the Iowa DOT’s 511 website, the road doesn’t appear to be closed any longer.
The officials said the semi veered off the road into the parking lot of Liberty Auto Sales, and the cab of the semi was smashed in. The driver involved passed away at Floyd Valley Hospital.
