SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — UPDATE: As of noon Thursday, power is being restored to many in Iowa, including Siouxland.

The MidAmerican Energy’s outage map shows 85 customers affected by outages in the Sioux City area and 43 in the Storm Lake area. Statewide, 8,786, about 10,000 less than in the morning, are still without power.


PREVIOUS: Power has mostly been restored in the Siouxland area after more than 4,000 were without power Wednesday night.

As of Thursday at 7 a.m., MidAmerican Energy’s outage map shows only 86 customers affected by outages in the Sioux City area and 177 in the Storm Lake area.

MidAmerican Energy reported Thursday night that there were more than 48,000 customers in Iowa without power, with 2,900 in Sioux City and surrounding areas. The outage map Thursday morning shows 18,044 affected in the state, with the most impacted areas being Council Bluffs, Des Moines, and Ford Dodge.


MidAmerican is reporting power outages during ongoing weather events.

UPDATE: MidAmerican has reported that there are currently around 48,000 customers without power in their service area. Crews are currently assessing the damage to get accurate damage for restoration time. As high winds continue overnight, additional outages may occur. Preliminary estimates range from 36 to 72 hours until everything is fully restored.

According to stats provided by MidAmerican, impacted areas and customers out, as of 9:30 p.m. include:

  • Council Bluffs, and surrounding areas: 15,000 customers
  • Sioux City and surrounding areas: 2,900 customers
  • Fort Dodge and surrounding areas: 8,300 customers
  • Storm Lake and surrounding areas: 500 customers
  • Des Moines and surrounding areas: 13,000 customers
  • Waterloo and surrounding areas: 4,500 customers

UPDATE: As crews work to return power to Siouxland communities a temporary shelter will be set up at the Kingsley-Pierson Middle School in Pierson located at 321 4th Street. 

The shelter will be open starting at 8:30 p.m.

Residents are asked to bring sheets, pillows, blankets and all necessities to stay overnight.  No pets will be allowed in the shelter.


UPDATE: The outage map shows more than 4,000 without power in Siouxland. About 890 of the outages are from Moville. More than 700 outages are taking place in Kingsley.
