Marcus man arrested for bypassing water meter reading equipment

MARCUS, Iowa (KCAU) – A Marcus, Iowa man is accused of by-passing his water meter reading equipment and using the city’s water without paying. 

The Marcus Police Department said they arrested Steve Mouser, 56, on April 29 on a warrant. 

The police said they received a complaint that Mouser had allegedly reconnected water to his residence after it had been disconnected. He also allegedly by-passed meter reading equipment when reconnecting the water. 

During a search, officers found a water meter and water curb stop tool. 

They said that after reconnecting the water, Mouser allegedly used 141,000 gallons of water, costing more than $1,500. 

Mouser was charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony. He was booked into the Cherokee County Jail.
