Man falls through lake’s ice near Lake Park

A man fell through the ice on a lake near Lake Park, Iowa Thursday morning. 

Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office said that authorities received a report of a person that fell through the ice on Silver Lake Thursday morning around 8:30. 

The Lake Park Fire Department had three members trained in ice water rescue make their way onto the ice. They pulled the victim, Dennis Gildemeister, 78, of Lake Park, out of the water. 

Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department used an airboat and took Gildemeister to a nearby boat ramp where he was then taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare. 

Gildemeister was said to have been in the water for about 22 minutes. No other information about his condition is available. 

Dickinson County Communications Center, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Emergency Management, Lake Park Fire Department, Lake Park Rescue, Lake Park Police Department, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance, Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources assisted in the incident. 

Authorities are reminding everyone to use caution before venturing onto the ice.
