Man arrested for stealing copper wire in Estherville

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa (KCAU) – Police in Estherville arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly stole wire and tried to sell it. 

The Estherville Police Department said in a release that a burglary report was may May 13 around 8:10 p.m. at the 300 block of North 2nd Street in Estherville. The victim told police that the building was broken into during the weekend. They also reported that a large amount of electrical copper wire in various sizes. 

The police gathered evidence at the scene. They also alerted scrap yards in the area about the theft of the wire. 

The police received a call from Estherville Iron and Metal Wednesday around 8:15 a.m. The employee told police that a man was acting suspiciously while trying to sell copper wire that matched the description of the stolen wire. 

The police then arrested Austin Boleyn, 24, of Hazelton, Iowa. He was charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree theft, both class D felonies.
