Make sure to set out non-perishables for Saturday’s Stamp Out Hunger event

Local News

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Stamp out Hunger is coming up this weekend, and the Food Bank of Siouxland Executive Director Linda Sheid stopped by our KCAU 9 studio to talk about the event.

The annual National Association of Letter Carriers food drive will be held this year on Saturday, May 11.

This is the single largest food drive conducted on one designated day from coast to coast.
The Sioux City letter carriers, as well as letter carriers in surrounding communities, are committed participants in this large undertaking every year and are anticipating another successful food drive this year.

“Stamp Out Hunger” makes it easy for residents to donate. All they have to do is place non-perishable food items in bags and place the bags next to their mailboxes on Saturday.

The items most in demand include canned fruit and vegetables, soups, canned meats, hot and cold cereal, pasta, and boxed or ready-made meals (i.e. macaroni and cheese). Please, no food past its expiration or “best by date,” no open items, no glass jars, and no homemade/jarred items.
