Local native community debates child welfare system

Local News

A three-day event aiming to provide healing and wellness in the local native community continued Tuesday night at the Sioux City Public Museum.

The town hall meeting included discussion on challenges families involved in the child welfare system face, as well as ending violence against women and children.

Briar Cliff Director of Social Work Liz Rembold says meetings like this one help spark important conversations

“I think the main reason that people need to step up is because it affects our children and it affects those people who are really part of this community. I think starting to have these conversations in a way that’s productive is really just some of the first steps,” says Rembold.

This year’s Memorial March to Honor Lost Children begins at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the War Eagle Monument.
