SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Folks in Sioux City doubled up on their good deeds Thursday, thanking area firefighters while also providing the gift of life themselves.
LifeServe Blood Center in Sioux City is partnering with local firefighters to host a blood drive. The drive honors firefighters and helps provide blood to nearby hospitals who see a drop in donations during the summer months.
The Fire Appreciation Blood Drive goes through this Saturday, so there is still plenty of time to donate.
“It’s bizarre that you have a group of people who it’s their job to go save lives and put their lives at risk every day and then they go over and beyond. We have so many blood donors who are firefighters or we have blood drive chair people who are firefighters. So we thought we really want to give back to these people and show our support and let our donors show their support as well,” Community Relations Coordinator for LifeServe Blood Center Claire DeRoin said.
The blood drive is at Sioux City LifeServe Blood Center during its normal business hours.
