A fire broke out at the Plymouth County Landfill overnight northeast of Le Mars.
The call for the fire came just after midnight, and fire crews are still working to control the flames this morning.
Le Mars Fire Chief Dave Schipper says they are working to get more heavy machinery on scene so they can create a divide from unburned material and let the rest burn out.
KLEM reports that the fire department is waiting to hear back from the Plymouth County Landfill Board of Directors to figure out their next step due to environmental concerns.
They believe the fire to be spontaneous, occurring in an area that is said to have been untouched for over a year.
