This occured on January 1. The Center says this acquisition will strengthen the continuity of care for patients and families and continue to ensure access to the highest quality cancer care available.
The cancer center originally opened in March of 1995.
“We are excited about this transition,” said Karen Van De Steeg, executive director of the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. “It will build on the strengths of both the medical and radiation oncology practices to provide a more highly integrated system with an even better quality of care.”
The medical oncology providers joining the June E. Nylen Cancer Center include Donald Wender, MD, Medical Director; Stephen Kahanic, MD; Radha Rao, MD; Kamalesh Bala, MD; and Shari Black, ARNP.
Patients will continue to receive services from their established providers at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center and in the 14 satellite clinics throughout Iowa and Nebraska. Appointments and treatments that are scheduled for 2015 will not change due to this transition.
The Cancer Center will employ 101 colleagues and continue to serve 33 counties in northwest Iowa, eastern Nebraska and southeastern South Dakota. Patient visits exceed 35,000 a year with an average of 175 visits per day.
The June E. Nylen Cancer Center is one of only a few facilities of its kind in the Midwest.
