Iowa ranked 2nd worst state for puppy mills

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Iowa is now ranked second in the nation for the most puppy mills, that’s according to the Horrible 100 list put out by the Humane Society of the United States.

The annual report states Iowa has 13 out of the top 100 worst puppy mills in the nation. Four of them are in Siouxland, with mills in Sioux Center, Sioux Rapids, Sheldon and Melvin.

Iowa bumped up two spots from last year’s report, where the state was ranked the 4th worst in the nation.

The Humane Society did not list any puppy mills in Nebraska or South Dakota.
