Inauguration held for Briar Cliff’s new president

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Briar Cliff University officially has a new president. An inauguration ceremony was held for Rachelle Karstens Friday afternoon.

Karstens previously served as Briar Cliff’s vice president and chief of staff and most recently served as interim president for the school.

The announcement was made in July of last year that she would be taking over as president permanently.

KCAU 9 spoke with Karstens before the ceremony about her journey and what it took to get her where is.

“Just don’t give up. Just take it one day at a time but focus on your goal and figure out what it takes to get there and ask for help,” she said.

Karstens is the university’s 11th president. She is replacing former president Dr. Hamid Shirvini, who stepped down in the summer of 2017.
