Light freezing rain started overnight, leaving an icy glaze for the morning commute.

While it seemed many residents have heeded warnings and stayed home, there was an accident south of Jefferson, South Dakota this morning. The accident was on I-29 at mile marker 6.

A truck, containing oranges, lost control on the icy interstate and got stuck under a bridge.

Emergency crews and tow trucks were on scene to clear the road.

Highway 141 also shut down this morning due to ice. Plows couldn’t get onto the highway to clean it. No accidents reported there.

A heavier, steadier freezing rain just picked up in the Sioux City metro about noon. The storm is still expected to push north slowly, leaving about a quarter inch ice on roads and sidewalks. Schools and businesses have closed to keep people of the roads.

The freezing rain will turn to light snow tonight, dropping about an inch there, leaving Tuesday dry.
