I-29 reopens after hazmat spill south of Mondamin

A portion of Interstate 29 reopened Sunday night after hazardous material spilled onto the road.

The Iowa State Patrol say that a semi hauling hazardous material was coming from a semi trailer on Interstate 29 Sunday between Mondamin and Modale. 

They say that around 12:30 p.m., a driver noticed liquid coming from a semi trailer at mile marker 86  and flagged down the semi. 

The closed portion was reopened around 11:00 p.m. Sunday night. Northbound traffic had been redirected through Missouri Valley and southbound traffic had bee diverted and south bound will be diverted at Onawa and through Nebraska.

The carrier of the material involved was Landstar Transport Logistics out of Rockford, Illinois.

The Tri-County Hazmat and Council Bluffs fire Hazmat assisted in monitoring the spill.
