SIOUX CITY - Kids around Siouxland today flooded the pools and local splash pads in order to avoid the heat.
We all know to stay hydrated when we are seeing extreme heat, but many don't actually drink as much water as they should be drinking.
Doctors recommend that you drink half your body weight in ounces. This would mean if you weigh 140 pounds, you will need to drink 70 ounces, or roughly 4 bottles of water, to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Most people need 4-8 bottles of water per day, but that does not include when you are outside sweating, working out, or drinking caffeinated and alcoholic beverages. When this happens, you almost need to double that amount in order to stay hydrated.
Staying away from sugary drinks also helps out, as they can add to your dehydration, even though you are drinking a liquid.
More heat is expected in Siouxland on Thursday as another heat advisory is in effect, but relief is in sight for the weekend.
Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water, and find shade whenever you can while the heat is this extreme.
