A Siouxland counseling services received $10,000 in grants to implement alternative therapeutic approaches
Sidney R. Baer, Jr. Foundation and the United Way of Siouxland awarded Heartland Counseling Services, Inc. with the grants. Heartland Counseling will use the grants to help those with mental illness and substance abuse issues by offering special classes. The monthly classes would be provided by a local yoga instructor, art therapist, music therapist, and dietician.
Heartland says that they hope to break down the stigma of mental illness. They say that one in five people struggle with mental illness. They want to provide people who may not normally have access to their alternative services.
