University of Iowa football fans are getting their first look at a statue honoring former football coach Hayden Fry.
A bronze statue of Fry was unveiled Friday.  It will greet visiting teams as they make their way to Kinnick Stadium to play the Hawkeyes.

The coach was alongside U of I President Bruce Harreld and Athletic Director Gary Barta when the bronze piece of work was unveiled.

Husband and wife sculptures Doris Park and Stephen Maxon produced the bigger than life piece of art for the city of Coralville.  Specific instructions were given for duplicating the hat, clothes, and shoes Fry should be wearing.

It’s a $36,000 statue, paid for by Coralville’s hotel-motel tax.  No word when it will be placed in it’s permanent location but if you want to check it out it eventually will be placed in front of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, 900 First Ave. It will face Hayden Fry Way which is the route visiting football teams take.

The unveiling was part of this year’s Fry-Fest activities that annually kickoff the Iowa football season.
