Future healthcare providers receive lesson on Iowa’s diverse culture

Local News

Over 70 students at Briar Cliff University attended an annual healthcare event. This year’s keynote speaker, Mark A. Grey, touched on Iowa’s immigration patterns and how to deal with language barriers.

One student studying physical therapy attended the event and said how he is now more aware of ways to be culturally sensitive to his future patients.

“This is not something that is really covered that much so it is a great topic to help increase our awareness and give us an idea on the real world we are about to go into and the patients we are about to treat and hopefully help,” says sophomore Isaiah Faas.

The event gave students an inside look at the diverse groups of people here in Iowa that they will later have as patients.
