UPDATE: According to Caylee’s family, the four year old girl died last night at 5:26 p.m.

On Sunday, Norfolk Police were called to the Faith Regional ER for a case of child abuse. That child, Caylee Hoehne is right now fighting for her life at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska after she was diagnosed with a severe skull fracture inflicted by her mother.

“This is a very severe case, ” says Police Captain, Michael Bauer.

Four year old Caylee Hoehne (Hay-knee) suffered a severe skull fracture and is fighting for her life at Omaha Children’s Hospital. According to Norfolk police records, Caylee sustained this injury after her mother “tossed her” into bed while trying to put her down for a nap. While police say they deal with child abuse cases every day, they say this case is different.

“I think what brings this to the forefront here is the severity of the injuries that the little girl suffered,” says Police Captain, Michael Bauer.

According to doctors, circumstances look grim, but Caylee is surrounded by her family and supporters who are hoping for the best.

“Seeing her fight, seeing her not give up. I know she can hear us,” says Grant Hurlbert, Caylee’s uncle.

Instead of focusing on what could be, Caylee’s family is setting up a Teddy Bear run in her name to collect stuffed animals for the children at Omaha Children’s Hospital.
In lue in monetary donations, the family asks for the donation of new stuffed animals with the tags still attached..and placed into plastic bags for allergy reasons to be distributed at the children’s hospital… The run is scheduled for Saturday, March 26th and will start at Elworth Motor Company in Norfolk and will end at the Children’s Hospital in Omaha.

“Come in your cars, come with your family. I mean, this is a good thing we’re going to do, only thing it’ll cost is a teddy bear,” says Grant Hurlbert, Caylee’s uncle.

Caylee’s mother, Carla Montoya, is set to be arraigned this Tuesday. Right now she is facing a Class 3 felony of child abuse punishable by up to 5 years in prison. If Caylee is unable to pull through, Montoya’s sentencing will be ramped up to a Class 2 felony punishable by up to 50 years in prison.
No word yet on Caylee’s condition.
