Despite February being the shortest month of the year, the Food Bank of Siouxland recorded its biggest month ever for food distribution. The record-breaking month included over 200,000 pounds of food. The previous record was set in November of 2013. Food bank employees say that an increase in distribution usually is caused by an event like a large employer closing. However this time, they’re not sure what to attribute the big number to.
“That’s part of it too, just what’s available will kick up those numbers because there are always people in need. So we’re really appreciative for the food that came through the door and the opportunity to turn it around and get it into the homes and on to the plates of the people who are struggling and need some assistance with their foods,” said Linda Scheid of the Food Bank of Siouxland.
The Food Bank of Siouxland services more than 11 counties in the Siouxland area.
