Farmland flooded in rural Nebraska

Local News

It’s not just cities dealing with mass flooding right now. Many rural communities all over Nebraska are also underwater right now

Water filled the ditches and farmland just outside of Laurel, Nebraska. Many gravel roads in the country are completely washed out and covered in rushing water. The wind also a much larger problem in these open, rural areas. Right now all farmers can do is watch and wait.

“Look at the mess that we got in the fields and stuff. We’re gonna have a lot of junk to pick up, and it’s gonna slow it down and we should be thinking about doing something and it’s gonna be a while,” Russ Kvols, a Laurel farmer, said.

Kvols was one of the lucky farmers having a back road open to his home, but many others are not so lucky. Their homes are completely inaccessible due to flooded or washed out roads.

Others have homes partially underwater right now and are staying in evacuation shelters with no idea when they might return home to.
