Fallen law enforcement honored at Siouxland ceremony

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – In honor of National Police Week, Sioux City residents took part in an annual tradition to remember fallen law enforcement officers.

Sioux City Police Chief Rex Mueller along with Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew spoke at the event, saying its always a humbling ceremony.

Drew also said he’s thankful its been several years since they’ve lost one of their own, but it’s always easy to remember those they’ve lost.

“So that’s always the difficult part of the ceremony. I’m usually pretty emotional about it because I know them and I know them personally so it’s one of the difficulties of the job, but I think the best thing we can always share with each other is that we must be prepared,” said Drew.

National Police Week was established back in the 1960s by Congress.

Sioux City and other local police departments will hold events all week long to show appreciation to those who put their life on the line to keep us safe.
