Facebook is teaming up with a community college in Iowa to offer a certificate program in digital marketing.

The school’s president says it could help some students get into the world of information technology.

“We kind of used it as a platform to launch our business and idea in the community before we opened four years ago. We use Facebook advertising, we like to engage with our customers,” says Julie Nitchie, Business Owner.

Both Facebook and DMACC are proud to announce something the social media giant and community college first started discussing about a month ago.

Dmacc president Rob Denson says when you consider the ever widening foot print Facebook has in central Iowa, their partnership is a no brainer.

“We could not wait to get too the table to do this deal,” says Rob Denson.

Denson says the 30 hour certificate program will help those who enroll better understand how to maximize all of social media.

In particular, Facebook and Instagram.

Which, he believes, will in turn enhance current positions and strengthen resumes for a possible job or career change.

“That education can lead into anything. it can lead into our it programs which are very good jobs. it can lead into cyber security programs.  We’ve got the Iowa cyber hub, a partnership with Iowa state, which is a two plus two. this really could launch somebody’s career into a better life,” Rob Denson, Des Moines Area Community College.

The educational partnership announced was a big part of Facebook’s community boost kickoff, but not the only part.

The day featured a number of breakout sessions and the opportunity for people to learn first hand how Facebook has helped keep some small business alive.

In fact, one small business owner says the social media company played a huge role in her success before the business ever opened its doors.

“We kind of used it as a platform to launch our business and idea in the community before we opened four years ago. We use Facebook advertising, we like to engage with our customers,” says Julie Nitchie, Business Owner.
