“Scooby shots” and “spike hyzer” are terms people in Elk Point will soon be familiar with thanks to a new sporting venue that opened there earlier today.
After a year of planning, the Elk Run Disc Golf Course held its grand opening with a 28-team shotgun tournament. The course features 18 holes and spans the entire Elk Point Park. Many players were caught off guard by the course’s water hazard. Course volunteers say the venue provides another fun exercise option for area kids and families.
“Lots of good things are coming out of it…that we’re getting some kids out doing some things…and getting exercise that they might not ordinarily do,” said Cheryl Campbell, volunteer and event organizer.
The city raised the money and planned the disc golf course based on an idea conceived by the Elk Point-Jefferson school’s student council. The course is open year-round.
