Local News

Witnesses say it sounded like a bomb went off in the downtown.

Just before 6:30, a series of explosions were heard and felt near 5th Street in Sioux City.

Apparently there were electrical fire underground which caused manhole covers to blow completely off.

Fire crews blocked off 5th Street between Water and Pearl Streets. The explosions happened in the nearby alley way.

MidAmerican also responded and is investigating what happened.

Dan Cougill, Assistant Fire Chief says, “Two of them were, there was one that was broke in half. We don’t know where the other of that one is right now but two of them were completely blown out.”

No one was hurt and there doesn’t appear to be any damage to businesses in that area.
