Court documents reveal that a former North High School Band Director charged with Sexual Exploitation sent an inappropriate photo to a 15-year-old student sometime last month.

According to the documents, 34-year-old Lucas Sursely told police in an interview that he texted the 15-year-old female about having sex with him. Police say that Sursely also admitted to sending a picture of himself wearing underwear with a lewd caption sometime around November 21st of this year.

Sursely is currently charged with Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee, a Class D Felony in the state of Iowa. He’s currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

Sursley turned in his resignation to the school district this past Friday, and the district held a meeting with parents about the matter on Monday.

A Class D Felony in the State of Iowa is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $7,500 fine.

Sursley’s arrest marks the third high profile arrest of a Sioux City North employee in the past three years.

Earlier this year, former North High soccer coach Erick Deleon was found guilty of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee after it was revealed that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with one of his students. He was sentenced to probation earlier this month.

Back in 2013, former Band Director Kevin Massey resigned after it was discovered that he was pawning off instruments to pay off gambling debt. Massey was able to steal over $50,000 in instruments in a period of time extending back to 2004.

Massey pleaded guilty to Felony theft charges was sentenced to three years of probation and to pay back the money to the school.
