Court documents reveal that a former North High School Band Director charged with Sexual Exploitation sent an inappropriate photo to a 15-year-old student sometime last month.
According to the documents, 34-year-old Lucas Sursely told police in an interview that he texted the 15-year-old female about having sex with him. Police say that Sursely also admitted to sending a picture of himself wearing underwear with a lewd caption sometime around November 21st of this year.
Sursely is currently charged with Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee, a Class D Felony in the state of Iowa. He’s currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
Sursley turned in his resignation to the school district this past Friday, and the district held a meeting with parents about the matter on Monday.
A Class D Felony in the State of Iowa is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $7,500 fine.
Sursley’s arrest marks the third high profile arrest of a Sioux City North employee in the past three years.
