Country music legend Merle Haggard dies on his 79th birthday

Merle Haggard has died following recent health struggles, passing away on his 79th birthday.

The country star recently canceled tour dates after being diagnosed with double pneumonia.

Haggard’s manager confirmed that the musician died Wednesday morning while in California.

Haggard was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994. He was best known for his 1969 hit Okie From Muskogee, along with dozens of other No. 1 hits.

The music legend performed at the Orpheum Theatre in Sioux City in 2009.
