SPENCER, Iowa - A former northwest Iowa church pastor sentenced in the spring to 5 years in prison for sexual exploitation has been released from prison after serving only about six months.
Kevin Grimes ran the Dream Center in Spencer where he was convicted of engaging in sexual conduct with clients dependent on him for counseling services.
KCAU 9 news was in court in May when Grimes was sentenced to five years in prison, but now a Clay County judge has just released Grimes on probation.
In his court order, Judge Don Courtney cites Grimes' family and financial circumstances as well as his lack of prior criminal history.
At least one of Grimes' victims wrote the judge a note opposing his release, saying it would be "irresponsible to allow him out... He's not sorry."
