Madison County, Neb. - A Norfolk woman is sentenced to no less than 55 years in prison today for the death of her 4-year-old daughter.
The sentencing of 23-year-old Carla Montoya came after she was found guilty of felony intentional child abuse causing death.
Judge James Kube handed down the verdict in a bench trial that concluded on Tuesday.
Montoya admitted to investigators she became upset with her daughter, Caylee, and threw her on a bed three times back in March of 2016.
The child died several days later at an Omaha hospital.
During the sentencing, Kube said, "This almost was a borderline rage incident, you threw her so hard it caused that injury... How could you not know? That's what I wonder. How could you not know?"
Montoya will not be eligible for parole for 27 and a half years.
