Families in central Iowa are keeping busy this summer with dozens of week-long and day long camps to take part in.

Monday was a one-of-a-kind camp geared toward young girls and construction.

The week-long camp is put on at Central Campus in Des Moines, and it’s meant to open the eyes of young girls in Iowa about the opportunities in the construction field.

Organizers say they’re excited to see this camp grow.

Melisa Cox of the Home Builders Association said, “You go to skilled trade and schools and it’s generally men in there. And to see a group of women in the week-long construction camp, that’s awesome.”

The young girls will learn about the trade, how to handle the tools, and the skills they need.

There are scholarships for these girls too when they decide to go to school for construction.
