A body has been found in Snyder Bend Lake, and authorities believe it is that of a missing person from a canoe.
The body is that of an older male and was found shortly after 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to a release from the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, about a half mile north of the southern edge of Snyder Bend Park Lake.
The identity of the body has yet to be released.
Police were searching the area because someone had found an unattended canoe in the lake.
Authorities searched from around 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday night.
The body was found around noon Tuesday.
“It’s part of our job. We do the best that we can to find the missing person. We call in all resources that we have and try to do it as fast and as diligently as we can,” said SGT. Chris Garthright of the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office.
Woodbury County Conservation, Iowa DNR, Salix Fire Department, Sioux City Police Department, Sioux City Dive Team are assisting in the search.
