Dozens of area high school scholars filled the campus of Morningside College on Wednesday.
For the 35th year KCAU 9 is saluting the area’s top academic achievers as the “Best of the Class.”
The program started back in 1983 to recognize and encourage academic excellence, and this year valedictorians from 105 Siouxland schools are being recognized. High achievers from all three Siouxland states were on hand for this year’s event. Many telling us that they aren’t the first from their family to be recognized as “Best of the Class.” Seniors we talked with offered a wide range of career paths. While most are planning to attend college, including state universities, private colleges and vocational technical colleges many others are making plans to enter the work force. A smaller group tells us they are planning to join a branch of the military.
KCAU 9 News Anchor Tim Seaman hosted this year’s lunch program highlighting the achievements of this special group of seniors.
“Most of all, it’s an honor. I mean you don’t realize how much hard work and dedication that goes into to high school until its done, and then its a privilege to look back at what you’ve done, and see you were at the top, but overall its an honor,” said Thomas Demers of Storm Lake.
Special thanks goes out to our sponsors, Morningside College, Famous Daves and Woodhouse Auto Family.
