Authorities release more information on Missouri River search

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – UPDATE: Sioux City Fire and Rescue released more information regarding a report of someone falling from the train bridge into the Missouri River.

According to officials, on July 20 around 12:04 pm., a man wearing a white t-shirt and jeans was observed walking on the train bridge connecting Sioux City to South Sioux City. At 12:25 pm, he was seen climbing off the bridge near the Iowa side and jumping into the Missouri River.

Authorities said it’s unclear if the individual intentionally entered the water or if he was able to escape the water.

Sioux City Fire Rescue and the South Sioux City Fire Department were dispatched to the Missouri River in an attempt to locate the individual, using boats an drones. Rescuers were unable to locate the individual.

A pair of tennis shoes were recovered from the waters near the Highway 20 bridge.

The Sioux City Police Department has had no reports of any missing persons matching the description of the individual.

PREVIOUS: Rescue crews are on the Missouri River searching for a person after receiving a report someone fell into the Missouri River from the train bridge.

The Sioux City police said they received a report that someone fell from the train bridge over the river Monday around 12:40 p.m.

Police officers are searching the banks, and the Sioux City Fire Rescue has a rescue boat on the river looking as well. A drone is in the area.

The train bridge comes from South Sioux City’s Freedom Park and connects to Iowa at I-29 near Cunningham Drive.
