It’s Ash Wednesday, but not everyone who wanted to could get to church during the work day.
That’s why a group of local Lutheran clergy provided ashes to go.
It’s part of a national movement to bring the experience of Ash Wednesday to the people.
They had four different teams of pastors stationed throughout Sioux City, including the transportation center downtown, and HyVee Main Street.
“People are out of the habit, in some respects, of coming into the building and faith is not so much about the building as it is about public expression… It’s a national movement, Ashes To Go, and we wanted to take this step as a way of saying all are welcome and all are included ” says Pastor Jeffrey Swanson, St. John Lutheran Church.
Pastor Swanson say ‘Ashes To Go” is a way to publicly invite people into the Lenten journey.
