Apartment residents displaced after Spirit Lake fire

SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa (KCAU) – A few residents of an apartment in Spirit Lake, Iowa are displaced after a fire started Wednesday night. 

Crews were called Wednesday around 5:50 p.m. to a fire at an apartment building at 2102 Jackson Avenue in Spirit Lake, according to the Spirit Lake Community Fire Department. 

Firefighters saw heavy fire and smoke on an exterior stair and interior hallway when they arrived. They were able to extinguish the fire. 

All residents of the building were accounted for with no reported injuries. About half of them are displaced. 

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.

Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department, Lakes Regional Healthcare ambulance, Spirit Lake Police and Red Cross assisted in the incident.
