Another “Freedom Rock” is nearing completion in northwest Iowa.
The rock in Anthon features local military figures like Colonel Bud Day, Sgt. Floyd and the 185th Air Refuling Wing.
“Freedom Rocks” are the creation of artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen.  The huge chunks of earth serve as a tribute to those who have served our country.    Sorensen’s on a quest to paint rocks in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.
So far Sorensen has completed rocks in 60 of those counties.
Sorensen has been painting the rocks, some as big as 60 tons, since 1999. Sorensen says he was inspired by the movie Saving Private Ryan, as well as, wanting to give Veterans a unique recognition on Memorial Day.
During Iowa’s cold winter months Sorensen can be found painting indoor murals or in warm climates working on outdoor murals as well as spending time with his family.
