36th Annual Best of the Class recognizes Siouxland valedictorians

Local News

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – It was a beautiful day for ‘Best of the Class.’ A day KCAU 9 recognizes valedictorians from the area. This was the 36th year of the event.

The ‘Best of the Class’ started back in 1983 to recognize and encourage academic excellence in Siouxland.

This year more than 100 students were honored at the lunch program, which was held at Grandview Park.

KCAU 9 anchors Tim Seman and Bridget Bennett, along with Chief Meteorologist Scott Larson were on hand to help celebrate.

One student we talked to says it was just a great day to be outside and away from the classroom.

“Any day away from school is a good day, especially when you’re surrounded by all the weather and everything that is being provided to us. That people are recognizing us, today. It’s just amazing,” says Annika Patton, Alta-Aurelia High School.

A special thanks to our sponsors for the ‘Best of the Class’ Wayne State College, Woodhouse Auto Family, and Famous Daves BBQ.
