On the afternoon of Thursday, November 30, 2017 at approximately 12:00 p.m. Storm Lake Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Railroad Street in reference to suspicious activity.
Upon contacting the occupants police allege that the driver and one passenger were both armed with pellet guns. In addition one of the occupants was allegedly in possession of marijuana and another was wanted by the SLPD in connection with an ongoing drug investigation where methamphetamine was reportedly seized from him on a traffic stop on October 13, 2017. Police allege that drug paraphernalia was also seized during Thursday’s traffic from some of the occupants.
Police arrested Phya Aung, 24 of Storm Lake, Rey Martinez, 22 of Storm Lake and Eh Lwe, 19 of Storm Lake.
The SLPD executed a search warrant on the vehicle and a third pellet gun, a mask and other evidence.
Following an investigation the SLPD charged Aung with Carrying a Weapon (aggravated misdemeanor). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2000.00 bond.
Martinez was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the county jail on a $1000.00 bond.
Lwe was charged with Carrying a Weapon (aggravated misdemeanor), Possession of Marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor). He was booked into the county jail on a $2000.00 bond.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation and additional arrests are anticipated.
All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
