The father of an infant found dead in a baby swing has been sentenced to life in prison.

Zachary Koehn, 29, was convicted of Murder in the First Degree and Child Endangerment Causing Death in Chickasaw County on November 28.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office said emergency responders answered a call of an unresponsive 4-month-old around 1 p.m. on August 30 at an apartment in Alta Vista. Upon arrival, responders found the child dead in his infant swing inside a bedroom.

An autopsy revealed that maggots were found all over the baby’s body and that he not been bathed, did not have a diaper change, and hadn’t been removed from the swing in over a week.

The death was ruled a homicide by the state medical examiner.

Koehn was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison.

The baby’s mother, 21-year-old Cheyanne Harris, is scheduled to go to trial January 29, 2019 in Plymouth County.
