Iowa lawmakers are discussing a proposal to change Iowa’s state constitution concerning abortion. The proposed amendment would add language that states Iowa’s constitution does not protect the right to an abortion.
The amendment, which has Governor Kim Reynold’s support, would give legislators the ability to restrict or even ban abortion in the future.
Last year’s fetal heartbeat bill was just struck down by a Polk County judge two weeks ago. It was the most restrictive abortion law in the country.
The proposed amendment still has to be approved by two successive general assemblies, before it will be decided on by voters.
