Iowa Gov. Reynolds signs sports betting bill

Iowa News

DES MOINES, Iowa (WOI) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a bill that legalizes sports betting in Iowa.

The law allows Iowans to bet through apps and in person. There would be a 6.75 percent tax rate on sports betting revenue. In-person registration for mobile apps will open up in January 2021. You would not be able to bet on in-state college teams or players, but betting on college games generally is allowed.

Sports betting practices would be regulated by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The new law signed by the governor allows betting on most sporting events through Iowa’s 19 state-regulated casinos.

Iowans could legally place sports bets as early July 4, if a regulatory framework is set up by then. Anyone who wants to place a bet must be 21 years old or older.
