Iowa recipients of Food Assistance will have funds available to them for the next month.
The Iowa Department of Human Services said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture told them that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits would be available for next month.
Due to the shutdown though, February’s benefits will be issued early.
Instead of Thursday, the benefits for February will available on recipients’ electronic benefit transfer cards on Thursday, January 17.
“At the Iowa Department of Human Services we understand the importance of ensuring food security for Iowans in need and will do everything we can to ensure there is as little disruption as possible,” said Director Jerry Foxhoven of the Iowa DHS.
The DHS recommends to budget their normal benefits to ensure they last through February.
Plans are being developed for the month of March if things aren’t resolved by then. Information about it will be shared when available.
