Iowa DNR officialis have confirmed that a mountain lion was spotted in the city overnight.

Video from the area of 31st St. and I-235 was being examined early Thursday morning to confirm the presence of the animal.

Police are advising everything to exercise an abundance of caution with children and pets in this area.

There is an elementary school in the area.

“We were told the last sighting was around midnight, so it’s uncertain whether it’s still in the city. However, out of an abundance of caution, schools in that area had an increased staff presence outside this morning. We also sent parents messages urging extra caution,” said Amanda Lewis with Des Moines Public Schools.
