11-year old charged for threatening school shooting through Snapchat

An 11-year-old boy is facing a felony charge for allegedly threatening a school shooting in Storm Lake.

The Storm Lake Police Department received a report Tuesday around 10 p.m. of a threat being made. 

They said an 11-year-old boy from Lakeside threatened to carry out a school shooting Wednesday at Storm Lake Middle School. The boy is a student of the school and allegedly made the threat through the mobile app Snapchat. 

Police found the student Tuesday night and took him into custody. No weapons were found during a search of the residence. 

The 11-year-old was charged with the class D felony of terroristic threats. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date. The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
