YANKTON, S.D. - A 21-year-old woman that died in a Sunday night crash near Yankton, S.D. has been identified.
Lucille Casiano, 21, Sisseton, S.D., died after being thrown in a crash about eight miles north of Yankton, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
Casiano was a passenger in a 1998 Ford Explorer when the driver, Stephen Lufkins, 23, also of Sisseton, S.D., crossed the center line on Highway 81.
Lufkins, swerved after making contact with another vehicle and lost control, going across traffic and into the ditch.
They say that Lufkins and Casiano people were not wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.
Casiano, was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Lufkins suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a Yankton hospital. Charges are pending against him.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
